Negative Earth 4 Cylinder Engines

Crossflow Era

In 1967 the Kent engine was redesigned to give it a cross-flow type cylinder head, hence the name Crossflow.

Cars that used the Crossflow engine are as follows:

Ford Cortina and Ford Capri
Ford Escort Mk1 and Mk2
Ford Cortina1.6 L Mk II, Mk III, Mk IV(South Africa Only)
Ford Cortina Mk5
Ford Sierra 1.6
Ford Fiesta MK1 1.3 and 1.6

The Ford Crossflow engine (1298 cc and 1599 cc) also powered the Reliant Anadol (1968–1984) and Morgan 4/4, Caterham 7, and TVR Grantura, Vixen, and 1600M.

It has since been used by countless kit-car builders all over the world.

Pre-Crossflow Era

The original Ford Over Head Valve OHV three main bearing Kent engine arrived in 1959 with the then brand new Anglia 105.

It widely referred to as the pre-crossflow Kent or pre-crossflow, in reverse-flow cylinder head configuration with both the inlet and exhaust being on the same side of the head.

Cars that used the Pre-Crossflow engine are as follows:

Ford Anglia
Ford Cortina
Ford Consul Classic and Consul Capri.
Ford Corsair
107E Ford Prefect
Marcos 1500 GT
Otosan Anadol 1.2 L – 1.3 L (1966–1984)
TVR Grantura
The Pre-Crossflow Kent engine was also used by Lotus on Lotus Mk.VII.
