This strangely shaped piece of velamoid or gasket type material has two functions.
Initially it is mounted behind the striker plate on a triumph Door lock ( that's the part on the body side, not the actual door) and so it serves to waterproof the actual aperture where the striker plate is mounted.
But more importantly the striker plate needs to be sometimes spaced away from the body to ensure that the lock system is accurately aligned.
Without these shims you may struggle to get the doors to close easily..
Sometimes as many as two per side are needed to cope with different door gaps from the factory.
